About Me

Hello, my name is Lorri Kanauss. I have been teaching at º£½ÇÆƽâ°æ since 2002 and enjoy working with students. Over the years I have taught several dietetics-related courses including Nutrition Assessment, MNT I, MNT II, and Community Nutrition. I have also taught a couple courses for Health Sciences recently.

I currently serve as the Dietetics Program Director and Director of the Bella Hearst Diabetes Institute on campus. I also served as a program reviewer for the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics for 15 years. I am a Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) and earned the Health/Fitness Specialist Certification through the American College of Sports Medicine. I have been a member of several professional organizations throughout my career including the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, American College of Sports Medicine, American Public Health Association, and the National Wellness Institute.

Previously I worked as a clinical dietitian at Cottage Hospital in Galesburg, IL, where my clinical experiences included renal dialysis, diabetes, life-management, chemical dependency, medicine, surgery, nutrition support, cardiology and pediatrics. I participated with the interdisciplinary team in developing, implementing, and evaluating plans of care. I also worked as an outpatient dietitian at the Quincy Medical Group in Quincy, IL, where I educated patients for a variety of conditions, including weight management, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, renal disease, and allergies.
