Ex-officio: Candace McLaughlin. Absent: Diana Allen, Jongnam Choi, Patrick McGinty, Jess White (vice chair). Ex-officio: Judi Dallinger, Russ Morgan. Chairperson Cynthia Struthers called the last CGE meeting of the Fall semester to order at 3:30 p.m. in 207A Morgan Hall. It was noted that Associate Provost Judi Dallinger and Associate CAS Dean Russ Morgan had to miss todays CGE meeting because they were attending the CCPI meeting, which was meeting at the same time this month. The Minutes from November 18 were moved for approval by John Miller and seconded by Esteban Araya. They were unanimously approved. Dr. Struthers noted that the date of the first meeting in the Spring would be announced later this semester. She also clarified that the CCPI Approvals noted on the agenda were informational items only and were not intended as action items for CGE. Faculty Senate Bylaws for Council on General Education Chairperson Struthers led the Council in the completion of its discussion of the Senate Bylaws pertaining to CGE, and in particular, the order of the duties listed for CGE. Several corrections were made to the draft, including replacing ƽ in letter (i) with Westerns and making lowercase the inadvertently capitalized T in the in the middle of the second part of letter (d). Dr. Araya then suggested the following order for the duties listed in the Bylaws: (1) b; (2) c; (3) h; (4) l; (5) e; (6) f; (7) d, part one; (8) d, part two; (9) j; (10) i; (11) a; (12) k; (13) n; (14) m Council members agreed that the proposed re-ordering made sense. John Miller moved approval of the suggested re-ordering, and Douglas Huff and Andrea Hyde seconded the motion, which was approved unanimously. The proposed revisions to the Bylaws are attached in a separate document entitled Proposed CGE Bylaws Revisions, 2 December 2010. Assessment of General Education The Council next undertook consideration of the materials on Gen Ed Assessment submitted electronically by Associate Provost Dallinger to Council members earlier that day. John Miller pointed out that since CGE was not empowered to request or consider information on how departments were using their General Education assessment data, we should suggest amending the proposed memo from CGE to departments in order to add, at the beginning of the first sentence of the third paragraph, the phrase The Provosts Office requests that. He also questioned whether departments faculty would have time to meet and consider data from the previous semester before the report was due early the following semester. Several Council members also questioned the wisdom of encouraging departments to make programmatic changes based on one semesters data. It was suggested that perhaps once a year, several months after the previous years data had been reported to CGE and the Provosts office, departments could be asked to submit a second report to the Provosts office on any curricular changes contemplated or undertaken as a result of previous years General Education assessment results. After a reminder from Dr. Struthers that she will forward the date of the Councils next meeting later, but that CGEs standing time to meet is every other Thursday at 3:30, the Council adjourned at 4:10 p.m. Respectfully submitted, Ginny Boynton, CGE Secretary PAGE \* MERGEFORMAT 1 !,ABCKTw 3 4 5 L O P [ m y z { | ɽŵŹɥݹͽhvh>ihAh|ih6 hz;hz;hhkht{5h|ih|i6h4 hz;hm9h4Zh|ih5Y&hzhkhz5htht{hAhz;5aJhAhb5aJhAht{5aJ4!ABC P z { | O P L M N 3 4 \gd[w"gd5Y&gdz;gdt{$a$gdt{ a e 4 9 E J M N O & * 6 L M N 2 4 Q ^ \]cekmsu{}Կ࿷h\&h;p{hWh[w"h;|h;|5 h;|5h;|huRhvhz;h4Zht{hzhAh^h4 h>;<]^ vw gd-gdt{gd[w"':;<=\]^ ABuw 9 (->BNQe ˿Ͽ𷯫hCBjhCBUhR@hh4 hzh/h5Mh}=jh^h^h^5>* h^5>*hAhh[w"hz;h\&hWC56789gdt{$a$gd-12346789hR@hCBh.RhmHnHuh-jh-U 21h:pb/ =!"#$% b 666666666vvvvvvvvv666666>6666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666hH6666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666662 0@P`p2( 0@P`p 0@P`p 0@P`p 0@P`p 0@P`p 0@P`p8XV~PJ_HmH nH sH tH @`@ bNormalCJ_HaJmH sH tH DA D Default Paragraph FontRiR 0 Table Normal4 l4a (k ( 0No List 6U6 F0 Hyperlink >*B*ph44 -0Header H$66 -0 Header CharCJaJ4 @"4 -0Footer H$616 -0 Footer CharCJaJ8A8 uRobject27>*S*Y(phPK![Content_Types].xmlj0Eжr(΢Iw},-j4 wP-t#bΙ{UTU^hd}㨫)*1P' ^W0)T9<l#$yi};~@(Hu* Dנz/0ǰ $ X3aZ,D0j~3߶b~i>3\`?/[G\!-Rk.sԻ..a濭?PK!֧6 _rels/.relsj0 }Q%v/C/}(h"O = C?hv=Ʌ%[xp{۵_Pѣ<1H0ORBdJE4b$q_6LR7`0̞O,En7Lib/SeеPK!kytheme/theme/themeManager.xml M @}w7c(EbˮCAǠҟ7՛K Y, e.|,H,lxɴIsQ}#Ր ֵ+!,^$j=GW)E+& 8PK!Ptheme/theme/theme1.xmlYOo6w toc'vuر-MniP@I}úama[إ4:lЯGRX^6؊>$ !)O^rC$y@/yH*񄴽)޵߻UDb`}"qۋJחX^)I`nEp)liV[]1M<OP6r=zgbIguSebORD۫qu gZo~ٺlAplxpT0+[}`jzAV2Fi@qv֬5\|ʜ̭NleXdsjcs7f W+Ն7`g ȘJj|h(KD- dXiJ؇(x$( :;˹!
